We are sad to announce that the "Oakland Row" at 8346 Oakland Ave has been deemed unsafe and not structurally sound.

As such, it will be slated for demolition this summer.

Over its time, the Oakland Row hosted such vital spaces as Red's Jazz Shoe Shine, Myrtle's Beauty Salon, and Oakland Avenue Artists' Coalition, among many others.

After funding had been secured for its renovation into 8 affordable businesses and 6 apartments, further structural defects were found, including hidden fire damage. This dramatically increased the stabilization costs, making its renovation into affordable housing and businesses unfeasible. While we cannot execute the original plan, it is still our intention to rebuild affordable structures that will benefit the residents, businesses and community around the American Riad.

To be involved or find out more about organizing a storytelling session to remember the row, please reach out to contact@oaklandrow.org.

Thank you.
